CREATIVE HANDS & HEARTS NEEDED TO HELP WITH SUNDAY SCHOOL PLAY

During the Parish Eucharist on Sunday, September 19, the Sunday school will perform their original play, "Jesus' Parables of Lost and Found." The play is based on three parables from Luke 15: the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin and the Prodigal Son, and it includes four original songs written by parishioner, Mary Jane Wilke. We have begun rehearsals, and the kids are working hard to learn their parts. However, there is still so much to be done! We are meeting this Thursday from 7:00-9:00 pm and this coming Sunday from 1:00-3:30pm in Mission House 2 to work on building masks and props. Please join us for however long you are able; no previous artistic experience is required. Also, I also need several reliable, detail oriented adults to assist the children backstage both during our dress rehearsals and during the performance. You would need to be available on Saturday, September 11 from 12:00 noon-3:00 pm, Sunday, September 12 from 10:30-11:45 am and Sunday, September 19 from 9:30-the end of the church service. Please contact me at andrea.demon@gmail.com if you can help backstage or if you have any questions.  Thanks so much.--Andrea Dedmon

Our Tuesday evening Bible Study continues. After our 6:15 pm Eucharist, the following Sunday’s preacher will lead a study of its biblical proper. Lessons for Tuesday September 7 will be: Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28; Psalm 14; 1 Timothy 1:12-17; and Luke 15:1-10.

HAVEN ON HIATUS
HAVEN, an unabashedly ostentatious acronym for “Holy Apostles Visual Emergence Nucleus” is taking a break. Jon Froehlich jondfroehlich@hotmail.com will release the details of when the group will resume shortly.

THEIR FRIENDS – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

SOCIAL & ECONOMIC JUSTICE COMMITTEE INVITES EVERYONE TO JOIN THE LIBERTY WALK &
INTERFAITH RALLY FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

In response to the heated opposition to Park51, the planned Islamic cultural center and mosque near Ground Zero, an interfaith coalition has formed in New York to bring together people of faith and others who support religious freedom and who support the Park51 Development. The sponsoring group,
Religious Freedom USA, is organizing its first event on Sunday, September 12:  the Liberty Walk, which will stop by various religious institutions, including a synagogue, St. Peter’s Church, the World Trade Center site, and the site of Park51. Our Bishop, Mark S. Sisk, recently wrote a letter to the diocese in support of the Islamic center.

We would like to ask parishioners to join us at this march. It will be a way to stand with other people of faith against fear and religious bigotry. The event will occur on Sunday, September 12 at 3:00 pm.  We can meet as a group beforehand, head downtown and join other faith-based groups for the march and rally. Information will be available at the SEJC table after the Eucharist. For more information, please speak with Lucinda Mosher, Lucy Sexton, or Stephen McFadden.

EVENING PRAYER & HIGH TEA WITH THE RECTOR – SEPTEMBER 13

Evening Prayer, with open discussion following, will take place on the second Monday of September from 6:00 to 7:15 pm. Please note change of date due to the Labor Day holiday. We’ll bring the tea and cookies – you bring what’s on your mind and heart. Please join us in Mission House 2.

FAREWELL MOTHER LIZ – SEPTEMBER 18

The farewell party for our beloved associate rector, Mother Liz Maxwell, will be on Saturday evening, September 18, in the church. The evening will include a dinner party and a program that will honor and celebrate Mother Liz’s many contributions to the parish, the soup kitchen, and the community. Invitations have been sent out and we would appreciate your RSVP by calling Wendy Shepherd at 212-807-6799 ext 222 or email her at
wshepherd@holyapostlesnyc.org. Also, we are asking anyone who is able to give a donation of at least $25 to help cover the cost of the farewell party. Make your check payable Church of the Holy Apostles with Mother Liz’s Party in the memo section and mail it to Wendy Shepherd in the church office.

We also hope that you will be present for Mother Liz’s last service as Associate Rector on September 26; she will be preaching and celebrating, and the parish will have a chance to mark this transition liturgically.

CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR PLANNED FOR DECEMBER 16

Hey! Let’s put on a show! Several parishioners have been meeting since January with plans for a Christmas Spectacular on Thursday, December 16. It is hoped to have a cabaret night of old, but with renewed energy, an updated spectacular approach and a silent auction to boot! Here is a link to our website for ways you can help:
The Christmas Spectacular.  To volunteer to help with the many tasks associated with pulling off this undertaking, please email:  ChristmasSpectacular.2010@gmail.com.

DO YOU NEED HELP IN PREPARING YOUR WILL? – A WORD FROM YOUR STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

Have you been thinking of finally making or amending your Will and need an attorney? The Church has a list of lawyers who will consult with members and friends of our parish and assist in drawing up their Wills. Wills are something everyone should have. Without one the disposition of your assets will be determined by the state. And, of course, we hope that you will remember your parish in your Will. Contact Wendy Shepherd
wshepherd@holyapostlesnyc.org or 212-807-6799.

CARING FOR CREATION
The SEJC provides a suggestion each Sunday to reduce our energy usage. The small things we do as individuals can make a big difference. Email your favorite energy saving suggestions to Mother Liz at
egmaxwell@holyapostlesnyc.orgAnd here is this week’s tip thanks to the Daily Green:  If you have the choice between powering up your desktop or a laptop, choose the latter. Also, when it's time to upgrade to a new computer, think laptop. Laptop computers draw only 15 to 25 watts during regular use, as compared to the 150 watts used by a conventional desktop computer and monitor. Plus, laptops also draw just a fraction of a watt when in sleep mode.
