We are an open and inclusive faith community. Among us you will find seekers and spiritual explorers, dedicated disciples, and faithful Christians from many backgrounds.
ABOUT our church
We worship with open minds and engaged hearts.
Since the Church of the Holy Apostles opened, it has been a welcoming space from which no one is cast out. The parish was founded in 1844 and continues to be a visible sign of God’s presence in our neighborhood and beyond.
Throughout its history, Holy Apostles has consistently advocated for the rights of all people to be treated in accordance with our baptismal vows. It is believed that our building served as a stop along the Underground Railroad a century before it provided a meeting place for the post-Stonewall gay rights movement. Congregation Beit Simchat Torah held services in our building for years, as has the New York Sufi community. Through the Soup Kitchen, we are proud to continue a tradition of radical hospitality by welcoming our neighbors in need of food since 1982.

About our parish community
The parish is a community in Christ, where we can share openly with one another our joys and sorrows, our fears and our faith.
Visitors to Holy Apostles immediately notice how much we enjoy each other. We get together for coffee hour after the Eucharist, for parties following festival services throughout the year, and for informal gatherings and celebrations.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

About the episcopal faith tradition
We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
As constituent members of the Anglican Communion in the United States, we are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world.
We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world.
We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church. Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation.
