SOUP KITCHEN & PANTRY — DAILY MEAL Service
Everyone is welcome, without question or qualification.
Soup Kitchen guests come from all five boroughs of New York City. For many of them, this is the only meal they will eat each day. We have always had an open-door policy—everyone is welcome, without question or qualification.
Timing
Providing meals every weekday.
The Soup Kitchen provides a hot, nutritious, well-balanced meal every weekday, including holidays, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Although meal service only lasts two hours, a day at the soup kitchen is much longer than that. We start bright and early at 6 a.m., when our chefs arrive to prepare a meal for the thousands of guests who will come to our gates that day.
Nutritious meals
Each meal is designed with health in mind.
It’s not only the quantity of meals served that’s important—providing nutritious food that will sustain and nourish our guests is also key to our approach. Each meal is designed with health in mind and is made up of the recommended balance of fruit, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. Our chefs only cook with whole grains, and in the last few years we have removed all processed food from the menu.
Culinary involvement
Chefs for New York City.
On any given day, the Soup Kitchen receives hundreds of pounds of donated food that needs to be used immediately. Planning a weekly menu of 5,000+ meals when you’re not sure what food will be donated requires more than just creativity. That’s why Holy Apostles partners with culinary figures from across the City to not only source food donations, but to support all aspects of our mission.
For just $5, you can provide 5 meals to New Yorkers in need.
Adapting Operations to Stay Safe
Serving on the front lines of an unprecedented food crisis.
Knowing that some of New York’s most vulnerable people depend on us to eat, we vowed to keep our meal service running any way possible during the pandemic. Thanks to our dedicated staff and supporters, we quickly adapted and have expanded our service to meet a drastic increase in need.
