Summer Reads Series 2024 — Book 2 — Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman
Howard Thurman was a civil rights leader, theologian, and pastor, and in this book he seeks to understand how the gospel of Jesus Christ is actually good news for oppressed communities, for those who stand “with their backs against the wall.” He particularly looks at how Jesus’ teachings address the insidious dangers of fear, deception, and hate. Although written in 1949, Thurman’s Disinherited has a lot to say that is relevant to oppressed communities in our country and around the world today.
