Ash Wednesday — Liturgy, Imposition of Ashes & Holy Eucharist (with Music)

The Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, in the 19th century, observed Ash Wednesday: “as a day of fasting and humiliation, wherein we are publicly to confess our sins, meekly to implore God’s mercy and forgiveness, and humbly to intercede for the continuance of his favor.”

We will gather in person for Ash Wednesday Liturgy, Imposition of Ashes & Holy Eucharist at 7 pm. Those not able to join us in person can access the live-stream of the service at this link https://events.locallive.tv/events/125810 (once on the site, please remember to increase the volume setting up as the default will be to set to mute) — if you have tech troubles, contact Local Live at [email protected] or call +1 877-355-6225.

Title: The Pharisee and the Publican; Date: 1973; Artist: JESUS MAFA; Object/Function: Painting; Country: Cameroon; Scripture: Luke 18:9-14, Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21. Notes: Although this work is directly associated with the Luke 18 passage, it is very similar to the Matthew 6:1-6 passage as well. JESUS MAFA is a response to the New Testament readings from the Lectionary by a Christian community in Cameroon, Africa. Each of the readings was selected and adapted to dramatic interpretation by the community members. Photographs of their interpretations were made, and these were then transcribed to paintings.
