The Asylum Seekers: A Chronicle of Life, Death, and Community at the Border by Cristina Rathbone – July 20
In 2019, the Rev. Cristina Rathbone traveled to Juarez, Mexico. Over time, she became an unofficial chaplain to the emerging community of individuals and families seeking asylum in the United States. Join us on Sunday, July 20 after our 11:00 am worship service, to discuss her account of working among people living in a makeshift tent camp at the foot of a bridge into the United States. Part memoir, part theology, part cry for compassion and justice, this book describes the hopes and the heartbreak of those seeking new lives in our nation. How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith by Bishop Mariann Budde – Sunday, August 24
Mariann Budde, Bishop of the Diocese of Washington, received an enormous amount of press for her sermon at the interfaith prayer service held at the National Cathedral this past January. Join us in reading her 2023 book, How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith. The book explores some of her own decisive moments both in public witness to the gospel and in her personal life, as well as the brave moments of others. We will meet to discuss the book, and how it might help build up our own courage, after the 11 am service on Sunday, August 24.
