This summer, Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen is proud to have partnered with local kids who are committed to giving back in their community.
One group of our young neighbors hosted a lemonade stand in July. They surpassed their goal of raising $200 and raised $362 for Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, enough to provide a Soup Kitchen guest with a hot meal for a full year.
Another group of kids wanted to give back when they noticed people in their neighborhood sleeping on the streets. Last year and again this summer, this generous family donated their allowances to support Holy Apostles.
As kids in New York City head back to school next week, we are so grateful for the dedicated young New Yorkers who support our guests. If you’re looking for a way to give back with young people in your life, volunteering at Holy Apostles can be a rewarding experience for the whole family.
Donating to our Back to School fundraiser is a great way to support kids and families in our community who are struggling to afford the items they need to grow and thrive. This year, funds will also go to support asylum seekers who have just arrived in New York, many of whom had to leave their families behind when they came here.
If you’re looking for resources about talking to kids about poverty and food insecurity, we recommend the book Maddi’s Fridge, which includes ways for kids to help fight hunger.
