Joyce Sturges oversees community relations for KPMG’s New York office, which means that she’s always on the lookout for new volunteer opportunities for KPMG’s staff. “One of our core values is giving back to our community. By having these volunteer opportunities, we’re really doing something for our employees, who want to do something to give back.”

Ever since Joyce discovered Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, a KPMG group has come here every month to volunteer. KPMG also provided financial support to the soup kitchen by supporting our Fast-a-thon and other events.
Volunteering here is very popular among KPMG staff, and the volunteer slots always fill up quickly. “It’s so easy to organize, and the employees feel like they really have a purpose when they come here. They enjoy coming here and so many of our volunteers come back multiple times,” Joyce says.
“Holy Apostles provides a healthy, wholesome meal that can sustain a person for a full day. The food is really good, and they use fresh fruits and vegetables,” Joyce says, smiling. “But what really makes Holy Apostles special is the people. The people who eat here are very humble, extremely friendly, talkative, and intelligent. I really enjoy the conversations I have with guests when I come here.”
