Much has been made of the fact that the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day in 2026 is as long as it’s possible to be. Memorial Day was on May 25th (seems like ages ago!), and Labor Day is this coming Monday, September 7th. Because those of us who live in the Northeast view these dates as the unofficial brackets around summer, this means that we have had some extra days in that season this year.
Each of us will have to decide for ourselves whether this is a reality to celebrate or merely endure. Either way, no matter how we feel about summer in general or this summer in particular, the world keeps spinning and we are about to enter a new season. Although the official first day of fall is not until September 22 and outward and visible signs of change are still some weeks away, autumn is upon us.
We are shifting to a new season at Holy Apostles, too. Some of the changes are cyclical—like the start of the “program year” at church, with additions to the liturgy, committees reconvening, etc. And some changes are the inevitable result of our new building—refurbished spaces, and many new possibilities for the life lived in this thriving and varied community.
Every one of us will be affected by these changes. We are part of how they evolve as well. I pray that we all enjoy these waning days of summer and look forward to experiencing what the Holy Spirit has in store for Holy Apostles!
