A Heart from Costa Rica: The Wiwe Family’s Visit to Holy Apostles

10.15.25 | Food for the Soul, Voices of our Community, Volunteer Stories

Earlier this fall, we had the joy of welcoming the Wiwe family, who traveled all the way from Costa Rica to New York City — and chose to spend part of their trip giving back at Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry. Together, they helped pack and distribute meals for our guests, filling the room with smiles, fun, and heart.

Their visit began with a heartfelt email from 10-year-old Celine, who wrote:

“I am currently doing a project in school where the aim is to help other people. I decided to help the homeless people in New York… I thought now we were going to New York I could do something there.”

Celine went on to share how she sold “mystery boxes” at her local market to raise funds for her project — hoping her efforts could “make a better day or week for someone.

From Denmark to Costa Rica to New York City, Celine and her family brought the same spirit that guides everything we do at Holy Apostles: kindness, community action, and compassion that know no borders.

We’re deeply grateful to Celine and the entire Wiwe family for reminding us that anyone, no matter their age or where they come from, can make an impact!
