Celebrating Our Volunteers

04.26.23 | Events, Food for the Soul

April is a month dedicated to Volunteer Appreciation. While we celebrate our volunteers every day here at Holy Apostles, this month is a time to show them a little extra gratitude.

Last week, we celebrated our volunteers with a luncheon. Our dedicated group of volunteers gathered for a hot meal and a celebration of the work that they’ve accomplished over the past year.

Our space was full of joyful individuals who contribute to the work at Holy Apostles each and every day. They enjoyed a delicious meal, prepared by Chef Chris, and connected through their shared commitment to serving our neighbors.

From April 2022 through April 2023, our volunteers donated over 20,000 hours of their time, estimated to be worth approximately $636,000 in costs saved for the organization. That equals 636,000 meals for members of our community.

At Holy Apostles, volunteers truly do it all. During our morning volunteer shift, volunteers pack snack bags for our Soup Kitchen guests and bags of groceries for our Food Pantry guests. And during our afternoon volunteer shift, volunteers distribute bags of groceries to all of the individuals and families that visit us. In Social Services, volunteers organize and distribute mail for guests, give out toiletries, clothing, and other essential items, and conduct intake to help match guests with services.

What’s the true impact of volunteers at HASK? Steve Fanto, our Manager of Volunteer and Community Services, shares: “We’re so thankful to have the very best volunteer Community.  Nothing we accomplish here would be possible without them.”
