Donor Spotlight: The Jerome L. Greene Foundation

02.18.22 | Donor Stories, Food for the Soul

At Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry, we rely on a network of individuals, companies, foundations, and other nonprofits to provide food and essential services to our neighbors. We’re highlighting one of those partners who makes the work that we do possible: The Jerome L. Greene Foundation.

Grounded in the vision of their founder to give back to the city he loved, the Greene Foundation is a committed partner and supports New York City organizations like ours to enrich and advance the lives of all New Yorkers. We are proud to partner with them to help make our great city work even better for everyone.

The Greene Foundation’s funding responds to the food crisis that COVID-19 caused in New York City. Thanks to their support, we’re able to secure nutritious and varied foods for New Yorkers in need, and increase food security through the distribution of healthy groceries and prepared meals to those who visit our Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.

As the need for food assistance has continued to grow in New York City and throughout the country, grants like the one we received from the Greene Foundation are essential in making sure that emergency food programs like ours survive. In January 2022, we served over 4 times the number of meals that we served in 2019. Partners like the Greene Foundation ensure that we never miss a day of meal service, and we continue to provide food to all those who come to our doors.
