On Tuesday, May 24th, helpNYC honored Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen with their Neighbor of the Year Award for our staff and volunteers’ dedication to helping underserved communities shown throughout our pandemic response and adjustment. Over the past few years, we have adjusted and expanded our services.
Alongside Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, helpNYC honored community partners Shower Power, an organization that provides access to self-care resources, hygiene kits, and mobile showers, and Recharge, an organization that offers services for those who use meth. The event was sponsored in part by HousingWorks.
“These deserving programs provide excellent community-based services that help many New Yorkers thrive. We are beyond honored to be in a position to elevate their work,” said helpNYC’s Founder and Executive Director Rue Parkin.
This award recognizes the hard work that so many members of our community have done over the past two years to ensure that we were able to stay open and continue providing meals for New Yorkers in need. Holy Apostles would not be here without the dedication of our staff, volunteers, donors, and community members.
While accepting the award on behalf of Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, The Rev. Dr. Anna S. Pearson said, “In our common commitment we also share a common hope; hope that, with everyone using their powers for good, true change—for all of us! Throughout our city!—can happen. And that is why tonight, I am humbled and honored to accept the Neighbor of the Year Award on behalf of everyone who brings our common mission to life, including many of the partners who are here tonight. We share this award with everyone who strives for justice and opportunity for each and every New Yorker.”
We are honored to have been selected as helpNYC’s Neighbor of the Year and strive to continue serving our neighbors and our community for many years to come.
