Hunger Action Month

09.17.21 | Food for the Soul, Voices of our Community

When our culinary team sits down to plan out the meals they’ll serve, they have to ask a lot of questions:

  • What ingredients were donated this week?
  • How can we stretch our budget to purchase additional items to create a well-rounded meal?
  • And, most important, how can we ensure this meal provides the nutrients necessary for our guests who rely on us for the only meal they’ll eat each day?

September is Hunger Action Month and as you read this blog post, 1.6 million New Yorkers are wondering where their next meal will come from. At the Soup Kitchen, we see the faces behind the statistics every single day. With the help of countless volunteers, partners, and donors, we’re providing tens of thousands of meals each week to everyone from unhoused New Yorkers sleeping on the streets to parents trying to find a way to put food on the table while facing growing bills.

Each person who arrives at the Soup Kitchen has a different background that brought them to us, but they all have one thing in common: hunger. At the soup kitchen, we believe that food is a human right. That’s why our team is here everyday, working hard to make sure that no one is turned away without food. We’ve never missed a day of meal service at Holy Apostles and we know that with the support of our generous community, we’ll continue to be here as long as hunger exists in New York City.

This Hunger Action Month, we hope you’ll join us in taking action to end hunger by supporting the Soup Kitchen. You can donate to support our mission and feed hungry New Yorkers here
