NYC Students Return to School

09.27.22 | Food for the Soul

This month, students across New York City headed back to school for the 2022-2023 schoolyear. While the back to school season is an exciting time, for many families, it can also be a stressful one. School supplies costs add up, especially when coupled with buying new clothing alongside backpacks, notebooks, required textbooks, pens, binders, and so much more.

That’s why every year Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry hosts a fundraiser to purchase school supplies for the families that visit our Food Pantry and need additional support. This year, we used the funds we raised to purchase backpacks and both elementary and middle/high school supply kits. Each student at our Food Pantry received a backpack full of essential items like notebooks, pens and pencils, colored pencils, calculators, scissors, and more.

Distributing these items to these families took some of the stress off of this busy time of year. All the families were smiling as they left Holy Apostles, knowing that they had fewer items to purchase and that their students were set up for success during the schoolyear.
