Our Inaugural Virtual Food Drive was a Huge Success

07.26.21 | Food for the Soul, News & Events

This May, we launched our inaugural Virtual Food Drive to raise money for our meal programs over the summer months, when donations tend to slow down but the need for food is continuously present at the Soup Kitchen. We partnered with our friends at Google to match all donations, up to $50,000, made to the Virtual Food Drive throughout May and June. Our first-ever Virtual Food Drive raised over $133,000, an incredible achievement. These donations will be used to support the Soup Kitchen’s daily meal service, pantry program, and meal outreach program throughout this summer.

In addition to Google’s generous donation, we also received in-kind donations from City Harvest and Food Bank for New York City during our Virtual Food Drive. Food donations allow us to keep our costs low and help us provide thousands of meals each week.

At Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, we pride ourselves on keeping our doors open and never turning someone away without a meal—because of our Virtual Food Drive, we’ll be able to continue serving our guests this summer and ensure that every New Yorker that comes to our doors has access not only to a nutritious meal, but also a community of support and fellowship.

As part of our Virtual Food Drive, we wanted to highlight the programs we have here at the Soup Kitchen. We put together four videos to showcase the work that our donors, volunteers, and staff allow us to do every single day. Check out the videos here:
