Support our Culinary Partners at Left Bank & Poulet Sans Tete!

11.23.21 | Food for the Soul

This holiday season, are you looking for a unique way to support Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen? By supporting our culinary partners’ businesses, you support their generosity to the Soup Kitchen and help grow our community.

One of our culinary partners, Chef Edelman at Left Bank & Poulet Sans Tete, raised over $2,500 for the Soup Kitchen as part of our 10th Annual Fast-a-Thon Fundraiser. The funds raised through Left Bank & Poulet Sans Tete will provide over 2,500 meals for New Yorkers in need throughout the holiday season.

Chef Edelman shared his experience fasting with us:

“It was not easy.  I’ve fasted before and was looking forward to the connected feeling I can experience when fasting mindfully.  This year, on that particular day, I had a lot going on all over town.  I was grumpy and distracted by 1:00, and the lack of nourishment really affected my forward momentum.  I wasn’t myself at all.  For strength I kept thinking about the people out there who aren’t doing this by choice – and that did carry me through – but only enough to not eat.  I wasn’t inspired; wasn’t happy about the situation at all.  At around 6:00 I ate a simple chicken and rice family meal at the restaurant.  But it didn’t really counter the lack of food from the beginning of the day.  I never got on track that day.  I’m glad I did it, and will do it again next year.  It’s a great reminder that a lack of food, even missing a few meals, can be enlightening, empowering, and in my experience, destructive.  You never really know how your body and mind will react.”

Last year, Chef Edelman participated in our “Food Is” campaign, when we asked supporters to describe what food means to them. He said “Food is how we take care of ourselves and each other.” Using food to take care of others is what we’re all about at the Soup Kitchen!

We’re grateful for the support of all of our culinary partners. Consider visiting Left Bank or Poulet Sans Tete this holiday season to show our culinary partners some love!
