Throughout life there is uncertainty. Uncertainty about the weather, our health, financial outlook, relationships, jobs, what the New Year will bring, etc.
If you were to go through an obstacle course in the dark but a friend who can see in the dark is there to guide you would have to trust their voice and follow instructions, even when it’s scary or doesn’t make sense. That’s what it’s like to trust God in uncertain times.
Life can be confusing and sometimes it’s hard to know what to do or where to go. The good news is that we have a God who loves us, guides us, and understands our struggle.
In Matthew 2:13, we see God guiding Joseph, a person we never hear speak. He trusts God as an angel tells him to go to Egypt to escape from Herod who is searching for Jesus to destroy him. Then when Herod died an angle again appeared in a dream and told Joseph to go to Israel.
Joseph must have been uncertain about the moves he was told to make, but trusted God to lead him.
We learn from this that God is always guiding and communicating with us. We read in the Bible how God spoke to people through angels and dreams, and today He speaks to us through His Son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We might not always hear an audible voice, but God is always with us, guiding us through life.
Second, we see that people can cause a lot of pain and suffering as Matthew writes in his gospel. It’s King Herod who’s causing all the drama. So, when unpleasant things happen, it’s not because of God, but because of the evil in the world.
God understands our pain our struggles because He suffered also. Jesus was arrested, beaten, and crucified. He knows what it’s like to hurt, and He is with us in our pain and struggles.
We need to learn to trust Him, even when life is uncertain. We need to listen to His voice and follow His guidance, even when it’s scary and doesn’t make sense.
If you’re going through a tough time right now, have faith in the Lord, trust in Him and listen for his voice, his guidance and remember that one day, He will cure it all.
