Yesterday, October 16, marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The FAO is a global organization that works to support local food systems around the world. These systems are facing challenges that are unique in nature and unprecedented in complexity, and disruptions in supply chains have ripple effects both local and far-reaching.

The website for the organization (www.fao.org) says this: As FAO marks 80 years, the Organization stand ready to continue to work alongside its members and partners. The focus is clear: to find practical, lasting solutions that respond to today’s challenges and help achieve a feed-secure world for all, for today and tomorrow. What a beautiful aspiration! Collaborative work to continue transforming food production and distribution, so that all may be sustained.

We live our faith assuming God nurtures us in ways that allow us to feed one another. We reinforce that assumption when we gather to celebrate the Eucharist, which then strengthens us to offer sustaining gifts to those around us. It is a process both mystical and concrete. And here at Holy Apostles, every day is some version of World Food Day—throughout the week, under the Christus Rex on our Eastern-facing wall, we have opportunities to do what we can in response to hunger in all its forms. This is Eucharistic activity, into which all are welcome!

Blessings,
