Good Corporate Citizen: Tapestry

At Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, it takes a village to prevent hunger in our community. Each week, hundreds of volunteers help provide meals to our neighbors by packing groceries for the families who visit our food pantry, handing out hot meals to soup kitchen guests, and distributing food to the New Yorkers who come to our doors. Our Good Corporate Citizen groups are an important part of this volunteer community, and thanks to their support, we’ve never had to turn someone away without a meal.

Good Corporate Citizens partner with Holy Apostles in a variety of different ways, often coming on-site to volunteer for our hunger prevention programs. This December, our friends at Tapestry wanted to do something special to celebrate 100,000 volunteer hours as a company. Celebrating this momentous occasion, we partnered with Tapestry to create a unique Day of Service on site at their offices in Hudson Yards.

During this Day of Service, Tapestry employees supported our hunger prevention efforts by packing hundreds of bags of food for our Food Pantry, which were promptly distributed to over 250 families that same afternoon. Additionally, Tapestry employees prepared hundreds of sandwiches for our Meal Outreach program, where we hand-deliver bagged lunches to the unhoused New Yorkers who seek shelter near the various transportation hubs in Midtown.

In total, Tapestry employees helped prepared over 2,000 bags of groceries, sandwiches, and toiletry kits to support our guests in all of our programs, and they also coupled their volunteerism with a $20,000 grant to ensure all the New Yorkers who visited our programs over the Christmas holiday could nourish themselves and their loved ones. This special event was a great way for the entire Tapestry team in New York to engage with the local community and support our efforts to ensure all of our neighbors, regardless of their circumstances, know where their next meal is coming from.

As a neighbor of Holy Apostles, Tapestry is a wonderful partner in our quest for food justice in New York City. In addition to this special Day of Service, Tapestry employees volunteer for our Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry on a regular basis throughout the year.

We’re thankful for our partners at Tapestry for generously donating their time and treasure to Holy Apostles, both through their volunteer Day of Service and through their financial contributions. To learn more about how your company can become a Good Corporate Citizen, click here.
